Music
Music
(Senior Cycle)
In St. Colmcille's Community School we offer Music as an option subject from 1st to 6th year. Music for the Leaving Cert has become a much more pupil friendly and accessible subject. There are three components to the Syllabus:
Composition
Listening
Performing
The syllabus requires the students to do 25% of their examination in each of these components and they can chose 50% in either Listening, Performing or Composing. Most students in our school and indeed across the country chose to do 50% in the Performing area.
The Music Department is an active Department as there is always something to be worked towards – Opening Masses, Graduations, Christmas, Easter, Musicals, Choirs, Seachtain na Gaeilge, Bands etc. We are blessed here at St. Colmcilles with such a varied and superb talent.
Composition
The Students develop the skills they have learned as Juniors. They learn how to write more complicated melodies and harmonise pieces of music.
Listening
The Students study a wide variety of the music genres and study four pieces in great detail ranging from the Baroque Period to Present Day Music. They learn to analyse all types of music.
Performing
The Students must perform music for their Leaving Certificate. They can perform on an instrument (or instruments), they can sing, they can perform solo or as part of a group and they also have the option to do music technology for the examination.
