What does Psychology tell us about Studying?

Over the last 25 years, cognitive psychology has learned a lot about how our minds learn things. Along the way they also look at how students study and it turns out that many students use methods that aren't very effective. Here is a quick summary of what works and what doesn't. There are lots of study tips on the internet, some good and some not so good. Everything here is based on peer-reviewed academic research (the good kind) that has been reproduced by other researchers.

Methods that don't work (very well)

  1. Reading the textbook again....(and again)
