Debating Society

Who?

What?

When?

The Debating Society is now open to any student who is interested and willing to make a commitment to the club. We are currently focusing on our new Junior members.

We will start the year by entering the Concern Debates competition. We will also run several in-house debates throughout the year. Other interesting events may arise...

We meet every Monday and Thursday at lunchtime in Room 26. Competitive debates generally take place at 8pm in the evening and in-house debates usually take place at 4pm.

Junior Debating

Our first Junior debating meeting was held at lunchtime on Thursday, 5th March and it was fantastic to see the level of interest from our 1st and 2nd years. Our Senior students spoke about how debating helped them with their confidence, public speaking and english class as well as simply why they enjoyed doing it. Our focus in the next month will be introducing our new Junior members to the world of debating.

Concern Debates

The Concern Debates is Concern Worldwide’s flagship schools activity. It gives students the opportunity to research and debate issues that affect those living in the developing world. By taking part, students learn the valuable skills of research and debating. The Concern Debates have been running for over 30 years. Throughout the competition's history, more than 45,000 students have engaged in the debates. Around 120 schools participate annually.
