Action Project

Action projects have been designed to help students to develop the skills of active citizenship. The key word here is ACTION. An Action Project involves the following steps:
  • students investigate an issue as a class
  • students reflect collectively on what they might do in response to that issue
  • students agree upon an action and carry it out, e.g. carry out a survey, organise a campaign, invite a guest speaker, organise a visit, publish a booklet, etc.
  • students evaluate their action and learning.
Action projects are not traditional projects where students research their own individual topic and present their findings in a scrapbook.

Writing up Your Action Project

While action projects are carried out as part of a group, each student will write up an individual report in their own words.

Section 1 - My Action Project (3)

Section 2 - Introduction (8)

Section 3 - Activities Undertaken (49)

(a) Type of Action & Communication (4)

(b) List and Description of Activities (15)
There are lots of marks for detailed accounts. Provide lots of steps to describe your activities clearly.

(c) Detailed Account of One Activity (15)

(d) Application of Skills (15)
Skills = what you have learned. Make sure you illustrate in detail what things you learned during the course of the project.

Section 4 - Summary (30)

This involves factual information about the organisation or topic that you have based your action project on.

Section 5 - Reflections (30)

This is one of the most important sections, what are the things that you have learned about yourself
