Due to the nature of a mixed school it is proving difficult to pull together a boys rugby team in any age group. Our Junior team is a mixture of second and third years and our Senior team a mixture of 4th to 6th year.
Our Junior rugby team competed this year in the Division 3A Metro League. Unfortunately we placed third in this league having come up against an exceptional Colaise Cois Life team which pushed us out of the cup but into the shield. We made it to the semi final of the shield but were beaten by an excellent Naas team.
Our Senior team reached the final of the South Dublin Cup which was played on 31st March 2017 in Donnybrook Stadium. The team had a very tough match vs an excellent Oatlands team, the score was nip and tuck throughout. Outstanding performances from our Argentinian forward Nicholas and our Centre Conor Smyth and full back Karl Weldon ensured Colmcilles stayed in touch throughout. At full time Colmcilles were leading 17 - 15 but a last second penalty slotted directly between the sticks robbed Colmcilles of another South Dublin Cup title. Albeit a very disappointing finish for Colmcilles, a tremendous performance by all the squad on the day.
