Assessment
What’s different about The Leaving Certificate Applied is that students are examined on their work as they go along. Students must have 90% attendance to pass. The programme is divided into half year blocks called ‘sessions’ of which there are four over the two year programme. Students are assessed on their work in January and May of each year when a session ends.
LCA 2016 /2017
Well done to all students from 5A who attended the Mock interviews on the evening of Monday 05th December 2016. The parents association offered students the opportunity to practice their interview skills. All students were then given feedback to help them in future interviews for college and job opportunities. These interviews also helped LCA students complete one of their business key assignments earning them credits towards their final exam grade.
LCA Session 1 Task
This term the LCA group had to complete a leisure and recreation task. They undertook the huge task of arranging a charity cycle for all 120 first year students!! all funds raised were donated to the National Rehabilitation Centre. The cycle took place on Monday 24th October and was a huge success. A big thank you to Mr. O' Brien for all his work in helping students complete this task. Here are a sample of the photos taken on the day:

Well done to all students in 6A on the very successful bake sale that was held recently. Students were required to set up a business as a key assignment to earn credits towards their final leaving certificate grade. Students were busy all morning in the home economics room baking and worked hard throughout lunch break selling all that they had made. It was great to see the huge effort put in and how successful the class were working as a team.

Students were busy completing their leisure and recreation task this term with their teacher Ms. Gaughran. It involved planning a five a side tournament for first years and being in control of running the tournament on the day of the event. Alot of work was put into planning this event and students from 5A arrived to school at 8am on the morning of December 10th. Once the hall was set up they waited the arrival of the first years. All first years paid to compete and were assigned individual teams. First years had great fun participating and the winning team won a trophy and prizes. Not only have 5A completed their task they have raised funds for a very good cause. Well done to all involved.

LCA trip to the Ploughing championships
September - November 2014
So far students have been working very hard this year and a lot has happened since September. The year began with arranging work experience. Students are required to go on work experience every Tuesday as part of the programme and students have now been working for five weeks. They are undertaking a variety of different roles in retail, catering, car maintenance and much more, allowing them to experience the difference between school and the working world!
On Junior Certificate Results day students went to Kippure with the Transition year students. Shortly after this was a trip to the ploughing Championships in Laois. With a 6:30 am start some students were not too keen initially but a great day was had by all and we look forward to returning next year.
Classes are going well and students have already started to earn credits towards their Leaving Certificate, having completed some of their first key assignments in IT, Irish and English. They are in the process of preparing for their Leisure and Recreation task this term.
