First Year Favourite Fictional Characters
Ginny is a determined and courageous character in the Harry Potter series. Ginny Weasley is the youngest child of Arthur and Molly Weasley, the only girl in the Weasley family. She has ginger hair like the rest of family.
The main plot of the series is to take down Lord Voldemort or as most know him, 'You Know Who', in a magical world free from muggles.
The first time we meet Ginny Weasley is when Harry and Ron head off for their first day at Hogwarts. Harry asks Molly for help finding 'platform 9 and 3/4'. Ginny moans that she wanted to go to Hogwarts and when she finds out that the famous Harry Potter is present, she is eager to go on the train and look at him again. From that moment she develops a crush on Harry . She is always nervous and clumsy around him.
During Ginny's first year at Hogwarts unfortunately she becomes obsessed with Voldemort's diary that he kept when he had attended Hogwarts. This made her unintentionally open 'The Chamber of Secrets' causing a monster to go around the school petrifying people, animals and ghosts. Finally she was forced into The Chamber of Secrets. In the end she is saved by Harry and Ron.
Ginny loves to play quidditch and is always stealing her brothers brooms and practicing. This shows how determined she is to play. In the fifth book all her hard work pays off as she is given the job of Gryffindor seeker. When Harry rejoins the team she becomes a chaser. Ginny went on to play quidditch on a professional team and when she retired she became the Daily Prophets senior quidditch correspondent.
Ginny was a competent wizard who was part of Dumbeldores Army (DA) in the fifth book. Her courage is definitely a great addition to The DA. When Harry, Ron and Hermonie where going to the Ministry of Magic to fight., Ginny was determined to go and help them.
Ginny loves Harry and in the sixth book they start dating but to Ginny's disappointment they break up. In the end Ginny and Harry do get married and they go on to have three children.
In the final book Ginny shows courage when she and a few of the remaining members of the DA still keep fighting
I love Ginny Weasley I think she is a determined and
courageous character who shows signs of this all the way
through the books. This is why I chose her as my favourite fictional character.

Dark Lord of The Sith
Darth Vader is the most popular character from the well known Star Wars franchise. He is known across the globe for his distinct suit of armour, his heavy breathing and his
famous quote "Luke I am your father!"
Born as Anakin Skywalker, the young Podracer on tatooine, was discovered by Qui Gon Jinn, Obi Wan Kenobi and his soon to be lover Padme Amidala. He lived with his mother Shmi Skywalker, as he never had a father in fact he was created
with midichlorians ( the cells that allow you to use The Force).
He was taken on as an apprentice by Obi Wan Kenobi and after Qui Gon Jinn is murdered by the sinister Darth Maul, Anakin grew up to be a great Jedi with a strong bond
to the force.
Anakin and Obi Wan made a great team until Anakin is seduced to the dark side by Chancellor Palpatine (The Emporor). Anakin and Padme had to keep their love a
secret as it was not the Jedi way for Anakin to love anyone. Obi Wan went with Padme to confront Anakin on the lava planet of Mustafar, Anakin nearly killed Padme but Obi Wan
stopped him and they fought in one of the most memorable battles of Star Wars history. Obi Wan chopped off all of Anakins limbs, except for his left arm, just before Anakin
caught fire and burned up on the shore of a river of lava.
Obi Wan left Anakin to die but Palpatine found Anakin and transformed him into the infamous, Darth Vader. Padme later gave birth to twins Luke and Leia but shortly died of a broken heart after.
Darth Vader is an intelligent, merciless warrior of the Galactic Empire. He has travelled across the galaxy ending the lives of those who opposed him, especially those who are involved in the rebellion.
While having allies, Darth Vader hates most of them, he is believed to only have liked Grand Moff Tarkin and Emporor Palpatine.
Only one person has ever made Darth Vader think and return to the Light Side of the Force, his son, Luke Skywalker.
Vader became embroiled in a light sabre battle with Luke, which resulted in Luke being injured. Palpatine thought Luke looked vulnerable and began to torture him with Force Lightning. Vader had enough of this and he picked up Palpatine and threw him off a balcony leading
to the bottom of the Death Star, killing Palpatine.
Vader was severely injured because of Palpatines Force lightning as it short circuited his life support system which only left him with a few minutes to live. Luke returns Vader back to the Shuttle Tydirium where Vader spoke his last words that
moved fans across the globe
Vader:"Nothing can stop that now. Just for once, let me look at you with my own eyes. Now go my son, Leave me."
Vader turned to the Light Side and he is fittingly resembled as a Force ghost at the end of the trilogy.
I chose Darth Vader because he is my favourite Star Wars character and I have been stuck by the magnetic force of the film since I first saw it in the cinemas in 2005 when I was 2
years old. My Dad is a huge Star Wars fan and he continues to talk about it and make references everyday so I never forget the franchise that made up my childhood.

Legolas the Elf
Legolas is a Sindarin elf and prince of the Woodland Realm. He is son of the Elven King Thranduil. He played an important part in the "Hobbit" and the "Lord of the Rings". In the Lord of the Rings he is one of the nine members of the fellowship of the rings. He has blonde hair, blue eyes and a tall stature.
The name Legolas is a Silvan dialect form of pure Sindarin Laegolas, Greenleaf. It consists of the Sindarin words laeg ("green") and golas ("a collection of leaves, foliage)
Legolas has very keen eyesight, sensitive hearing, and is light on his feet. Due to his strong senses, he nearly always keeps to the back of the group to keep them safe from danger.
Legolas is excellent with a bow and arrow and is very skilled with swords to. You can see this when he defeats countless creatures called Orcs on numerous occasions. Legolas uses an Elven bow and a long, white dagger with lethal precision. He prefers to pierce his enemies from afar, but he does sometimes use his daggers in close combat. He is also very loyal to his friends and would never let anyone fend alone.
Legolas is known to have a very conflicting relationship with the dwarf, Gimli. This is clear at the Battle of Helms Deep when Gimli can't see over the castle wall. Gimli asks what's going on out and Legolas replies "do you want me to describe it to you? Or do you want me to find you a box?" He and Gimli are very competitive , especially during the battle were they have a contest to see who can kill the most orcs. Legolas stood by his friend Gimli when confronted by the haughty Éomer, threatening him with death if he attempted to harm the dwarf. I like how he managed to put the ancient feud between the elves and the dwarves behind him and embrace a great new friendship
This shows just how much he cares for his friends.
Like all elves, Legolas had great respect and appreciation of nature. He would never hurt a creature of nature or the trees and the plants.
In the hobbit, the elf Tauriel confronts danger many times and Legolas is always there to support her despite her attitude towards the elves when she falls in love with the dwarf, Kili.
Legolas is a kind and loyal character, not to mention funny. He is an excellent bowman and can kill numerous enemies with one sword. I admire Legolas so much because of his skill and his wit. He is a very endearing character, well developed and a totally reliable friend. This is why I love Legolas.

"My faction is Abnegation. The rest all call us stiffs . We live a simple life, selfless, dedicated to helping others. We even feed the factionless, the ones that don't fit in anywhere. Because we're public servants , we're trusted to run the government. "-Beatrice Prior. Tris Prior is the chief protagonist in the worldwide phenomenon " Divergent " trilogy.Tris is a strong willed sixteen year old who hates to show her weaknesses. The first time (of nine) that I read the wonderful novel Divergent I instantly fell In love with Tris's quirky personality and her yearning to discover her true self not other people's versions of her.
In Tris's world the futuristic Chicago the inhabitants of the city are divided into 5 different sections called factions. Erudite the intelligent, Dauntless the brave, Candor the honest , Amity the peaceful and Tris's birth faction Abnegation the selfless. Each factor works in what seems like perfect harmony with one another to help sustain the city but with Erudite attempting to undermine Abnegation trouble is brewing. Divergents belong to more than one faction and are feared because some Faction leaders believe them to be uncontrollable. Tris is a feared Divergent and with Divergents being hunted Tris finds it hard to trust anyone.
Tris is a petite, young girl with a slim narrow face and pale skin which elegantly frames her unforgettable piercing blue eyes . Long blond hair the colour of straw interlocks with striking dark eyebrows to form a distinguished ,alluring appearance. Abnegation members wear the same grey clothes to symbolise selflessness and abnegation women wear a knotted bun at the nape of their neck. When Tris makes the daring decision to move faction to dauntless ,her fashion world is rocked. Dauntless were tight black clothes which unlike abnegation clothes expose skin. Dauntless traditionally have tattoos and piercings which leads Tris to get tattoos. Tris has 3 black ravens on her left shoulder "One for each person I left behind." She also has the abnegation symbol on her right shoulder which she keeps hidden because dauntless would not approve of her having her previous faction indelibly stamped into her skin.
Beatrice's role in the Prior family household was of selflessness. Beatrice always believed that Caleb( her older brother) was invariably the strong one, the one who didn't have to try to be selfless who just was. This lead Beatrice to become slightly jealous of Caleb but she kept this jealousy well hidden. Beatrice's parents Andrew and Natalie Prior are both perfect examples of the model Abnegation member . Which made Beatrice's decision to change faction all the harder and she is racked by guilt this at leaving her family behind.
"Beatrice was a girl I saw in stolen moments in the mirror ,who kept quiet at the dinner table. This is someone whose eyes claim mine and don't realise me: this is Tris." - Tris Prior. The incredible divergent is kindhearted and brave and she will not let her friends get hurt if there is any way she can stop it. Tris is sometimes unsure of herself or afraid but she will never reveal her lack of confidence because she does not want to appeal weak to anyone.
Tris eliminates Four ( her Dauntless initiation trainer's) hard exterior and figures out his fears which is tricky when the he won't even tell anybody(except Tris) his real name. Four is called Four because he only has 4 fears this was thought impossible before Four transferred to Dauntless ( from abnegation). The first fear Tris uncovers is Fours fear of heights . She discovered it during the traditional Dauntless game of paintball capture the flag. Four a fellow Divergent shows Tris how to mask her aura of Divergence in the dreaded fear landscapes. Tris falls in love with her Dauntless initiation trainer Four. Tris was ranked number one out of the whole years initiatives even though she was sixth in the first initiation stage the physical stage. She quickly elevated her rank in the second stage, the emotional stage and in the third and final stage , the mental preparation stage she blossomed until she was the best initiate.
When Tris was faced with a life altering decision to save herself or to save her family and abnegation the innocent selfless faction ,she stayed true to herself and her inalterable abnegation roots and chooses to save the hundreds of innocent lives over her own. While successfully achieving this rescue she also faces a loss that could of swallowed her if she was not such a resilient character , the loss of her beloved mother Natalie and her cherished father Andrew.
I simply adored Tris's charismatic personality and her determination to become the best that she could be. The female protagonist is a complex character so I switched between Tris and Beatrice when referring to her because I believe that Beatrice is the timid little abnegation girl who was unsure of her purpose but Tris is the strong , audacious woman who risks her life for those she loves. Tris as a character is constantly evolving during this trilogy and watching this evolution is both fascinating and fulfilling.

One choice can destroy you.
One choice will define you."

Milo, the chief protagonist in The Phantom Tollbooth, was created by author Norton Juster. Juster began to compose the book about a child's confrontations with strange concepts that are difficult to grasp when asked by a child "What's the biggest number there is?" Milo's story was first published in 1961 and although when interviewed, the author feared that Milo is a blank character, I believe that Milo is like our tollbooth into the wonderful Land of Wisdom.
Milo is drawn in black and white throughout the book. His sharp physiognomy and daily outfit of a black top with white trousers matches his personality perfectly. At the beginning of the book Milo is just a bored boy who is simply not satisfied with anything. "When he was in school he longed to be out, and when he was out he longed to be in." He was also confounded as to why he had to learn the things he learned. On one particularly dull and boring day, Milo arrived home to find a brand new box with 1 turnpike tollbooth packed inside.
Milo traveled in his small red electric car through the tollbooth and into the lands beyond. The first characters that Milo encountered on his journey were the lethargarians in the Doldrums. Thinking and laughing is banned there and the inhabitant's days are filled avoiding things that have to be done. Milo sees what it's like when you waste your own valuable time and so becomes determined not to end up like this. After picking up the watchdog Tock (who goes tick), Milo set off to Dictionopolis where he learned that the princesses, Rhyme and Reason, had been banished from the kingdom and how ever since, there has been chaos throughout the land.
Azaz, the king of Dictionopolis sets Milo off on a formidable quest to save the princesses. After meeting Alec Bing at Point of View, playing the sunset and jumping to conclusions, Milo was no longer bored but curious, brave and happy. He was saturated after coming out of the Sea of Knowledge while many other characters were not. He was even able to trick one of the greatest mind in all the lands, the Mathemagician, into letting him complete his task. By the time Milo reached the Mountains of Ignorance to confront the demons, he was able and adventurous.
Before returning Rhyme and Reason back to Wisdom, Milo spoke solemnly to the princesses about the mistakes he himself had made on his long and treacherous journey. By the end of the conversation and the book, Milo understands "that it's not just learning things that's important. It's learning what to do with what you learn and learning why you learn things at all is what matters." He also learns that "whatever we learn has a purpose."
Milo had made many friends by the time he returned home from Wisdom in his little red electric car. When Milo returned to his house, he had been cured of his boredom for good and didn't need the tollbooth for adventures anymore, he could make his own. He said "Well I would like to make another trip but I really don't know when I'll have the time. There's just so much to do right here." But nothing had changed in his house. Milo was no longer a bored boy who is dissatisfied with everything - he is a brave, adventurous and excitable child who is determined to grab every opportunity that comes his way and who is determined never to waste his own valuable time again.
I chose Milo because I thought he was a very well developed character. The author doesn't describe Milo's physical appearance, he left those to the reader's imagination. I liked this as I love letting my imagination run wild and deciding what the character looks like in my own head. Thus, Milo became more of a relatable and appealing character for myself and many others. The book is very cleverly written which makes Milo an even finer character. Every reader comes to recognise the changes in Milo throughout the book and that is why Milo is my favourite fictional character.
